Sgoil an Iochdair agus a'Choimhearsnachd

WELCOME waterlilly

Welcome to the Sgoil an Iochdair agus a'Choimhearsnachd website.

We are a small local charity based in South Uist. Our main aim is to improve recreational facilities in the catchment area of Iochdar School, which extends from the middle district in South Uist up to Island Flodda, Benbecula.

Following the completion of a community survey to find out what people would like to see happening, we identified a list of projects that would be popular locally. We have already been successful in completing some of these projects, or supporting other groups so that they can undertake the work. We also have lots of ideas for the future.

Due to the pandemic, our activities were curtailed, but we are now back on track to create new facilities in our area. We have reprioritised where we will focus our energy. We are going to focus on upgrading and repairing the facilities around the school and playparks in the area. We are also working alongside the community council as they develop a footpath and cycle network between Iochdar School and Lovats shop. Any cycle racks and seating that we have installed can be matched to support funding of the community council project.

We have had a change of approach with the pitch beside Iochdar Hall. We have already improved the drainage around the hall, and kept the grass cut over the last couple of years. Copies of the original plans are in the NEWS section.

Please contact us if you have anything you wish to pass on; all of our projects have been proposed by local people, and their success depends on everyone's feedback and input.
